As the philanthropic arm of the DC Bar, the DC Bar Pro Bono Program has been committed to supporting small businesses through the Community Economic Development (CED) Project since 2004. Recognizing that small business owners and nonprofits in low-income communities are often unequipped to resolve complex legal issues, the CED program provides free legal guidance for a variety of issues, including tax law, employment law, contract review, real estate, and more.
In addition, several volunteers host walk-in community education clinics to provide personalized counsel. Besides offering support to the community, the CED Pro Bono program provides a supportive framework for lawyers interested in developing client skills and non-litigation experience in transactional law. Since its inception, the CED clinic has helped over 515 nonprofits and 1,759 small business owners.
