Designed to introduce students to critical writing and oral argument development, the Maynard Pirsig Moot Court provides practical experience in current litigation techniques. Students who participate in the Moot Court devote an initial semester to drafting an appellate brief and oral argument. The following semester, students continue to refine their work in an appellate venue by rewriting the appellate brief and presenting a series of oral arguments. Recent topics covered by the Maynard Pirsig Moot Court have included law school affirmative action programs and Internet personal jurisdiction.
The Maynard Pirsig Moot Court also serves as a drafting pool for the University of Minnesota’s ABA Moot Court competition team. Each year, the team selects two second-year students and two third-year students from the current group of Maynard Pirsig participants.
